Wow, I am in the Black---- ;>) I have decided to count the center of Easy Street, since it is completed and I have not decided on the border treatment yet. Will need to go shopping for a purple because I do not have enough of the purple fabric that I used in the pictures. I have a couple of options for a possible border treatment but not positive yet which I will use. Leaning towards the top option. The stripe will be cut on the bias which is a much more interesting treatment than if it was cut on the crosswise grain. All depends on the fabric I find for the main border. May decide to do a pieced border. Shopping is of course such a hardship!!!! LOL
This week I spent time with Marilyn Bujalski, a fellow guild member. Marilyn is in charge of our guild web page for St. Cloud Heritage Quilters, http://stcloudheritagequilters.com/. I am in training and will take over the web page in 2014. It is a fun way to learn my way around Wordpress. We learned so much and accomplished so much in one afternoon. She showed me around her studio (which was just tooooo neat for words). After our getting together, she is now enthused about doing more on her blog. Hope she does.
Marilyn makes fabulous quilts using one inch squares and counted cross stitch designs. See the following link for an article about her: http://www.thequiltermag.com/features/158/MarilynBujalski.shtml She is in the process of writing a book showing her process for making the quilts.
I am so slow about adding the last border to my Dotty Dresden Plate quilt. Was hoping to count the yardage for this weeks stash report. I have been asked to teach a class and while I know how I am going to do the border, not sure how I am going to write good clear instructions for inserting the plates around the corner. Still thinking --- (that can be dangerous) ;>)

Love Easy Street! I like the top option also. Good luck on the hunt. I am going to do some more assembly this afternoon while on quiltcam. How exciting to know someone such as Marilyn, so much to learn from her! Stay warm! I don't have to leave the house until Tuesday morning....lol
ReplyDeleteI am going to a sew-in on Monday. Car will be nice and warm! ;>) Also, no cooking because we can order lunch from a little cafe out in the courtyard of the quilt shop we have the sewing at. Perfect time to hunt for fabric also!!! LOL Good luck on your Easy Street.
DeleteI adore your dotty dresden quilt - is it okay if I copy it? Bonnie's patterns are always amazing with how they got together. Great Easy Street.
ReplyDeleteHey, no problem with the dresden plate. There is nothing original about it, just the way the fabrics are used. In fact, I think it is a compliment!! Thank you for asking.
DeleteYes, I have fallen in love with everything that Bonnie does. Love the scrappy looks.
Your Easy Street looks marvelous Beth! I really love your bias stripe option for the inner border - wow!!! I really love what stripes can do for a quilt design :*) I'm currently working on writing up a pattern too - it's not as easy as one would think, is it? Good luck on yours!
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of a bias stripe border! It's so fun to see all the Easy Street Variations.
ReplyDeleteOooo, I like the stripy between the inner and outer border. Well done! I hope to have my top finished today.

I've gone to just about every linky at the Easy Street finale post. I'm sincere when I say that I like your's the best. =). I really like the pattern she did this time. I'm just not sure if I could be so scrappy with it. Now that you've finished your quilt top, if you were to do another one, what would you do different? =)

Annie, Thank you so much!!! Actually, I enjoyed the quilt just the way it is and wouldn't change a thing except color. This is the second mystery quilt of Bonnie Hunter's that I have done. I did Orca Bay last year and enjoyed that one as well. After years of doing models for a quilt shop and samples for classes that I used to teach, I am really enjoying the freedom of the scrap quilts. The biggest thing to remember with most scrap quilts is more is better and the value.
DeleteTake care,
Beth
