Well --- I did need to purchase a couple of pieces of Civil War fabric for the January swap. The bargain room at Gruber's Quilt Shop had several good choices and my wonderful "FRIEND", Maureen, just knew that I needed to purchase a couple of extra pieces while I was at it!! LOL So, while I am usually not a Civil War fabric person, I now have a nice variety and after the swap, I will have an even nicer variety. That is my story of why I purchased a total of three yards instead of a yard and a half --- and I am sticking to that story.  VBG

As I was searching through my stash for Civil War fabrics, I came across a piece of fabric that I have been aging for a considerable length of time (from the 70's or early 80's) that I thought was an interesting piece of my quilting history. It was actually made in the good old U.S.A.!!! Joan Kessler for Concord fabrics designed it. PSST -- There are several other pieces from the same era in my stash!! LOL

It seems like the time is just flying by. Last Saturday, I met my daughter Natalie in Staples, MN. She brought homemade cookies for the residents of the Lakewood Care Center and had scheduled to play the piano in the afternoon. We met for lunch and then went over to Lakewood. The residents and her Grandmother (my MIL) enjoyed the Christmas music a lot. Her Grandmother is 101 years old and just scoots around in her wheel chair and sings to everyone.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have finished Parts 1 & 2 of the mystery by Bonnie Hunter, Celtic Solstice.

Christmas is coming so fast. We celebrate next weekend and it should be fun with a whole house full of people. In celebration, even my Christmas Cactus has been putting out buds and started blooming!

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful and blessed Christmas!!!

Thank you for stopping by and make sure you hop over to Patchwork Times and see what others are doing.

  1. Your MIL certainly doesn't look 101. Your Natalie is beautiful.

  2. Sounds like you are planning a really nice holiday Beth. Your Christmas Cactus is beautiful! Loved the picture of your daughter and MIL - they both look like young chicks :*) Like you, I am not a Civil War fabric buff, but I do have my share of them in my stash. I ended up collecting quite a few while doing Dear Jane it seems.

    1. I am so looking forward to this weekend with a full house. Since I am an only child and did not have much happening at Christmas, I especially enjoy all the "hubbub." The Civil War fabrics are so great in scrap quilts. It is amazing how many FQ's of CW fabric I do have in my stash. The swap should be fun.

  3. Christmas is coming so fast...sounds like you are on top of it though. Have fun celebrating! So fun to visit your MIL, 101 huh, she looks pretty spry! I met Becky Wright, the Civil War quilter and I am now hooked on Civil War Fabrics. I am grateful I don't live by Gruber's, I would be broke. Our LQS closed 3 years ago and the nearest is 40 miles away. Makes it easier not to add to stash as often!

    1. At 101, MIL really isn't doing too bad. She broke her hip last December, otherwise she had been able to get around with a walker before then. I do like the look of Civil War fabrics in scrap quilts. They usually have a softer huggable look to the quilts made using them but I do like my more contemporary bright fabrics as well. No wonder my stash is our of control!! LOL

    1. Are we giving away the level of wisdom & maturity that we have reached?? LOL I am sure getting impatient to see what Celtic Solstice is going to look like. The cactus didn't bloom last year, so I just know that I am being blessed this year. Hope you also have a wonderful Christmas.

    1. Hi Vic, We just had our family Christmas, so I am a little slow thanking you for your visit. Have to admit the Joan Kessler fabric does look rather Civil War. It is amazing how many fabrics I have in my stash that our of the same stage of "vintage" aged! LOL

  7. You've done a good job keeping up with Bonnie. Your stash enhancement for the year isn't bad.
