May 1st in MN, Quilt Retreat & Wedding Shower

Got up this morning and wished Hubby a Merry Christmas. This is what May 1st in Aitkin, MN looked like!  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Drove to Fargo, ND on Friday. It was a beautiful drive and on the way I stopped at Red Pine Quilt Shop in Detroit Lakes. The quilt shop is a nice one and they have a good selection of fabrics. Friday afternoon my daughter Natalie and I shopped for decorations for Brenda's wedding shower. Brenda is my youngest daughter and she is getting married in September. Natalie and I spent Saturday looking through some fun shops in Fargo and had a nice relaxing day. Sunday morning I headed back home.

I attended a retreat from Monday, April 17th to Thursday, April 20th in Avon, MN. This is a group that retreats together three times a year. We have such a fun time, Our group has come up with a name: Rippin' Good Stitchers.

Becky was working on this quilt called Bounce by Quilting on the Curve.

At the retreat I did manage to finish another ten house blocks for Journey's End by Kim Diehl. Ten of the blocks were completed at the February retreat. Hope to finish the next five blocks before another retreat. LOL

What's Up? Not much!

It seems like it has been a busy week but nothing much accomplished. No additions or uses reported for the stash report. The only thing to show for design wall is the pile of handles for patient bags that I turned right side out after sewing a seam down the long side!! Whoopee!! LOL

I did finish a fleece scarf for my youngest daughter. Brenda picked out the thread color for the machine embroidery when she was home in March. Since I was going down to Minneapolis this weekend for Easter, I wanted to get it done. Course now she has to wait until next winter to wear it. Haven't figured out if I am behind or ahead!! I also delivered her finished Log Cabin quilt. She was very happy to finally get it!!

I think winter might finally be over. It was over 70ยบ F.  Whoopee, Yippee, Wow!!  Last Wednesday, we received over 12 inches of snow. The ground had been almost bare of snow but by the end of day, it looked like this -----   The snow is gone again!! Hope it stays gone.

On Saturday, I attended a maintenance class for my Featherweight sewing machine. It was a very good class and I learned a lot. My little machine is just humming now after a thorough cleaning, lube, and oiling. It should help me to better maintain my other vintage machines.

After the class, I went over to my daughter's place. She lives in Minneapolis. Brenda took me on a tour of the hotel (The Commons) where she works. It is a very uniquely decorated place. We then had a leisurely dinner at the hotel, went back to her place and relaxed for the evening. On Easter morning we went to Ikea and I picked up a little kitchen cart that I wanted for in the sewing room. After Ikea we went to a little place called Hazel's and had a delicious brunch. It was a wonderful time spent with Brenda. Then homeward bound I went. Hubby and son had been left to their own devices and it was time to get home and make sure they hehaved -- Very Big Grin!!

Today was Sew-Sew Monday at Gruber's Quilt Shop in St. Cloud, MN. One of the ladies brought in a quilt she is donating to "Breaking Free." What a great quilt. I worked on my "Talkin' Turkey." Might get it done some year! LOL While we were sewing a whole bus load of Canadian quilters stopped into the shop on their way to Paducah. They were doing a fantastic job of shopping. Hope they are not broke before getting to the quilt show! LOL

Hugs to all and make sure you hop over to Patchwork Times and see what others are doing.

Stash & Snow

Used since last report:        0.00 yards
Used year to Date:            61.00 yards
Added since last report:     7.00 yards
Added Year to Date:         71.17 yards
Net Used for 2013:            - 10.17 yards

I did add seven yards of background fabrics for "Lollipop Trees" by Kim McClean. Having a problem holding off starting the quilt because there are other projects to finish first but I couldn't resist purchasing the background fabrics. I love to do needle-turn hand applique but may just do invisible machine applique on this one.

There are no finished projects to report. Have been cutting "Talkin' Turkey" by Bonnie Hunter. This is a project that I plan to work on at retreat. Also, trying to have several other projects cut out and ready to go. After all, need to make sure I do not run out of things to do at retreat!! LOL Seems like I always have way more projects with then I need.

It is snowing in Minnesota and is so pretty - especially since this snow will not last. Here is a view off my front porch on this wonderful Sunday, October 20th.

Thank you for stopping by and make sure you hop over to Patchwork Times and see what others are doing.

Used year to Date:            13.50 yards
Added since last report:     0.00 yards
Added Year to Date:           5.50 yards

No change to the stash this week. I passed quilt shops by on my way home from Fargo, North Dakota, last Monday. Usually I like to stop in Perham, MN because it is one of my favorite quilt shops but I practiced will power and passed it by.  Kuddos to me!!!  LOL   Course part of it was that I still was recovering from a bad cold and just wanted to get home. That cold is still hanging on. BooHoo --

I have been trying to decide how to quilt the borders for a table runner that I have loaded on the frame but wasn't sure how I wanted to quilt it. Did find an idea on the internet last night. The table runner is another UFO that is years old. It was done in a mystery class that I taught for the local quilt shop. Have several of these type of UFOs in the pile. They will make good machine quilting practice pieces. I am considering the design shown below for the borders. Have been practicing drawing the design since last night so that I can free-motion quilt it.

We are getting snow today in Minnesota. There is a little break in the heavy snow right now. Sometimes we can't see the trees out front with the heavy snow and wind. Good day to stay home, nice and cozy. Not as bad as out East. We expect to get about 12 inches where we live. It is so pretty!
